The Schools of Urbanicity
Three schools, one method: the museum is the curriculum. Students investigate real objects, real sources, and real cities — encounter, hypothesise, test, argue, make — from the first village to the modern skyline.
School I · Lower · K–12
The Academy
A full social-studies year in ninety lessons: three a week, thirty weeks, taught out of the museum halls. Every lesson runs the investigation arc, and the word “test” never appears.
- World history, American history, and the Labs ladders
- Leveled readings — three variants of every passage
- Look-for vocabulary, museum drawers, gallery walks
- Parents hold the grading floor and the clock
School II · Middle · Grades 6–8
The Jr High
The middle school, where a student stops being told and starts to argue from evidence. The same museum halls, read at the middle-grade level, with science done at the bench.
- World history and American history, written for grades 6 to 8
- Science at the stations of the STEM museum: measure, predict, check
- Readings leveled for the middle grades
- A report to parents each semester
School III · Upper · Post-secondary
The Institute
Social sciences at university register: 6 tracks, 62 courses, taught by a faculty of 18 — sociology, economics, geography and GIS, history, political science, and computing.
- Urban theory, tall buildings, and the history of the city
- Economics labs — every curve readable off its table
- Office hours in Merrick Hall and online
- Every professor’s reading list, on their card
One school
The School
The Academy, The Jr High and The Institute are one school, newSchoolWorks.com, run by Urbanicity. The museum is its textbook, and the school is growing.
